Corporate Social Capital – 2021

Achieving performance improvement through increased Corporate Social Capital (CSC) transforms a leading edge into a cutting edge. It also provides a unique marketing edge, USP and point of differentiation.

CSC committed organisations harness their power and can increase their health and improve their performance.

The critical steps are to:

  • Measure the current CSC – Use the following individually or in combination:
    • CSC Questionnaire;
    • CSC Interview Proforma; and
    • CSC Observer Report;
  • Implement a CSC increasing process (e.g. Organisational Performance Enhancement); and
  • Reevaluate the CSC.

Organisations can become exceptional and/or demonstrate their values by seeking CSC 2021 accreditation which means:

  • Having a CSC development plan/process;
  • Implementing a CSC increasing process; and
  • Measuring the impact of the CSC on the organisation.

CSC Accreditation is no different from any process of objective review. It simply means being aware of the issues, having a clear vision for the process, establishing systems for implementation and then measuring the outcomes. Validity testing is a critical component of the process as is external review and verification.

It is still early days for the CSC concept and acceptance of this novel idea is far from universal. However, optimising performance and caring for people is essentially "old hat" and CSC is convenient structure for linking both. For most organisations, this is just good commonsense. For those organisations which have stretched the envelope of process/production improvement, it is the only area left where significant gains can be achieved with "insignificant" costs.
