Quick Questions...

Q. I have heard people talking a lot about stress at work recently, why is it such an important issue?

Q. What does well-being have to do with work? Shouldn’t people be responsible for their own well-being?

Certainly everyone is responsible for their own well-being, but sometimes there are issues in the workplace that require everyone’s cooperation and input to change for the better. If you’re a manager or an employer, you might benefit from finding out what furthers your employees’ well-being if for no other reason than it might further your organisation. If people are under stress at work, it just might be that something’s not working quite right.

Q. My work is high-powered and I get stressed frequently, what can I do about it practically?

 Q. I don’t agree with the idea that stress is all bad. I thought that stress was also supposed to be good for you. How do you know the difference between stress that’s bad and good?

When the stress helps me keep my focus on the task and energises me to met the demands of my work, then I think it is good. If it keeps me from doing my work well or I loose sight of my client’s needs and just churn out activity, then I think it is bad for me and bad for the company.

Q. My job is really stressful and I have to stay on the move most of the day. How am I supposed to relax in such a hectic environment?

Q. To be honest, I think that the way our whole organisation is run plays a big part in my stress...it’s not just the work I have to do, it’s how I’m supposed to do it--they way someone else thinks it should be done.. Does anyone else feel that way?

I do. I think there is a growing awareness that some organisations are better than others about monitoring how their processes further the creativity and well-being of their people and others destroy that creativity with stress. I believe that it’s an area that costs many companies more money than they realise. These issues will need to be addressed by any company wanting to compete these days.
